A. Wirt Cook

Served North End – 1977-1995

Wirt Cook was born in Mingo county, West Virginia in 1936. He married Faye
Donley in 1954. Faye passed away in 2012. Four of their five children are mem
bers at North End. Wirt served eleven years in the Navy. After serving in the Na
vy he went to Sunset School of preaching and later received his bachelor de
gree from Alabama Christian School of Religion. Before coming to North End,
Wirt preached in New Jersey, Pennsylvania , and Athens, Ohio. One of the min
istry’s begun during his time at North End were jail services. He also, with the
help of our members, revived the Ohio Valley Lectureship. The evening services
averaged 397. Wirt was one of the co-founders of the West Virginia School of
preaching in Moundsville, West Virginia. He left North End in 1995 after 18 years
of service; being our longest serving minister. After North End he preached in
Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Orrville, Ohio. He returned to Parkersburg to be
closer to his family and he worked with the Rosemar congregation from 2002
2014. After preaching for over 50 years he spent his retirement years back here
with North End. Wirt passed away in December of 2019.
